Sounding Labs

Sounding Labs — a software studio

We build instruments for murky water.

Some problems are hard because the rules are tangled, the stakes are real, and nobody can see the bottom. We sound them out — then build the tool that reads the depth and reports it plainly, with its sources shown.

How we work

Measure first. Build the instrument. Show the reading.

We don't ship black boxes. Every tool we make is deterministic where it counts, honest about what it doesn't know, and able to point at the source behind every answer.

01 — Sound

Find the real depth

Before a line of code, we map where the actual risk and complexity sit — not where they appear to. Most of the value is in framing the problem correctly.

02 — Instrument

Build a tool that reads it

We turn tangled rules into something that runs the same way every time: fast, testable, and precise enough to trust with a real decision.

03 — Cite

Show the source

Every answer carries its evidence. If a tool flags something, it says exactly which rule, which case, and why — so you can check the work, not just take it.

ClaimKind

Compliance infrastructure for advertising claims — the first instrument out of the lab.

ClaimKind

claim-scanning engine · cited rule packs · hosted API

Brands are being fined for the wording on their product pages — "carbon neutral", "reef safe", "clinically proven". ClaimKind reads product copy the way a regulator would and flags the exact phrases at risk, each tied to a real enforcement case, with a compliant rewrite. The engine is open source; the cited, versioned rule packs are what teams pay for.

Grounded in real cases — e.g. ACCC v Clorox (2024), an A$8.25m penalty for "ocean plastic" claims, and the UK ASA's bans on unqualified "carbon neutral" ads.
Next More instruments are in the works. If you have a murky, high-stakes problem that should be legible, we'd like to hear about it.

The studio

Sounding Labs is a small, independent software studio. We take on problems where the cost of being wrong is high and the truth is hard to see, and we build the instrument that makes it readable.

We work in the open where we can, keep our claims honest, and would rather ship one tool people trust than ten they don't. ClaimKind is the first; it won't be the last.

// what we hold to
— deterministic where it matters
— cited, or it doesn't ship
— honest about the edges
— guidance, never overreach
— the source is always shown
